First Time Guide
How Law Downloads Work
Each law that you "Activate" (touch or click) for the first time on this application will take some time to be downloaded fresh from the official government source. The time it takes will depend on your internet connection speed.
📱 Data-Conscious Design: Built For Users On Limited Plans
Because we know many of our users are on:
- Limited mobile data plans (prepaid or budget plans)
- Metered connections (pay-per-MB or capped monthly data)
- Rural/remote areas with expensive internet access
- International connections where data costs can be prohibitive
We've designed the app to require a deliberate double-click before downloading any law. This prevents accidental data usage while you're browsing or scrolling through the extensive law library, protecting your wallet and data budget!
⚠️ How It Works: You must DOUBLE-CLICK (or DOUBLE-TAP) a law button to download it for the first time. A single click will NOT download the law. This is intentional to save your data and storage!
30-Day Browser Cache
Once you have downloaded it fresh from the official government source, it will load near instantaneously from your browser history for 30 days.
Save Law For Longer
If you need the law for longer than 30 days, you will need to use the "Save Law" button to save the law to your device.
We Do This For 3 Reason's
Reason #1: Mobile Storage
This is a mobile first application. If you were to download every law that there is in the United States of America, all at once, for mobile use, it would take several hours, possibly days, to download the original application! And chances are pretty good that you do not have that much storage space on your mobile device!
Reason #2: Living Laws
All laws in the United States are considered to be "Living Laws" and are subject to change over time! So, if you do have the storage space to download every law to your device and you use your device's database to form your opinion on the black and white law that is in your device, it's possible (however unlikely) that, that law no longer exists in the same form that is in your device's database!
Reason #3: Performance
Having every law in the United States on your device would slow it down considerably. Not to mention 90% of the people using this application will only need to save 10 laws or less for a short time!
